In the fall of 2024, a registered Little Free Library opened in Walker City Park.
The original book box, designed and built by a member of the Walker 4-H Club, served the community for many years. Over time, however, weather and regular use took a toll on the structure.
With the generous support of the Nevada Elks Lodge, Little Ladybug Library, Friends of the Olathe Public Library, Susan and Phil Thompson, Clint and Raye Swopes, Bruce and Mason Simpson, the City of Walker, the Walker City Council, and many friends, neighbors, and surrounding communities, a new library box was built and installed.
Today, the Walker Little Free Library serves residents of Walker and the surrounding area. The book-sharing box is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is freely accessible to everyone, helping remove barriers to book access.
Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Its mission is to build community, inspire readers, and expand access to books through a global network of volunteer-led book-exchange boxes.
Visitors can also find and connect with the Walker Little Free Library through the official Little Free Library map and mobile app.
