Walker Fun Days Prep…

I wanted to share a little about what I have learned while preparing for Walker Fun Days. This is my first year on the planning committee, and I am quickly realizing just how much work past and current members have put into making this event happen year after year.

In past years, I would drive into town, enjoy Walker Fun Days, and then go home, never giving much thought to everything happening behind the scenes. But this year, being an empty nester has hit me hard, and I suddenly found myself with a little more free time. So, I decided to join the Walker Community Betterment Association.

I have now learned that putting together two days of activities requires months of planning, weekly meetings, countless text messages, and many volunteers working behind the scenes.

One question I keep asking is, “How do we get the younger crowd involved?” When I say younger, I mean people in their 20s and 30s. But then I stop and remember what that stage of life was like for me. My 20s were busy with working, raising a family, and simply trying to keep up with everyday life. Sometimes people may want to help but are unsure how to fit one more thing into an already full schedule.

We would love for the “younger crowd” to come take a breath, relax, and enjoy the weekend. We want to see you and your family having fun and enjoying all our hard work! We have children’s games planned, a baked potato feed, and two young Cottey students performing Saturday night. Your child can also decorate their bike and ride in the parade, or your family can simply come out, watch the parade, and cheer everyone on!

Walker Fun Days begins Friday, September 18, at 6:00 p.m. with the opening ceremony, baked potato feed, and cornhole tournament. We hope you will come spend the weekend with us, enjoy the activities, and make some great memories in Walker!
